How to Switch User in SharePoint Designer

By default, SharePoint Designer will only prompt you for credentials to a site if the user you are running as doesn't have adequate permission.Everyone knows that this is a big problem in SharePoint designer 2007 which doesn't have option to change the current logged in user. For whatever reason the “hold shift and right-click on the shortcut to choose Run As…” option isn't available in Windows 7 for SharePoint Designer 2010.

Now SharePoint designer 2010 has the option to see who logged in and change the current logged in user.

How to:
In SharePoint designer 2010 there is an option at very bottom left corner which shows the current logged in user information and options to change user.
Step 1. Open any site in SharePoint Designer
Start >> All Programs >>SharePoint >> Microsoft SharePoint Designer xx

Step 2: Click Open Site button under the section Open SharePoint Site.
As expected SharePoint Designer will prompt you for credentials to a site ONLY IF the currently logged in user doesn't have adequate permission, otherwise it will open site with the user you are running.
Now to switch to another user, Click the tiny little user icon in the bottom left corner.
See below figure.

Step 3: Log in as another user Dialog will appear, Click OK

Step 4: Windows Security Prompt will appear, enter the second credential that you want to use.

Cool Ah ?
